On November 23, 2019, the ninth Depth of Developers and Users Conference (DDUC) held in Tsinghua University. The award ceremony was held for the winning works of the first in-depth software development competition. The team composed of Li Changgang, Wu Yue, Chang Yanchao, Shi Xiaohan and Zhang Hengxu submitted the Simulation Toolkit for Electrical Power Systems, STEPS, which won the fourth prize. It is the only industry heavy application software that won the prize. This competition has been the Chinese Academy of Engineering academician Ni Guangnan guidance.

STEPS is a new generation of power system analysis software initiated by Li Changgang in 2012 and open source under MIT protocol. Developed by C++ and Python, STEPS realizes power flow calculation, electromechanical transient simulation and other functions of large-scale ac/dc hybrid power system. Aiming at the application needs of artificial intelligence (AI) in the field of smart grid, the software adopts a modular and open architecture to realize full transparency and full controllability of the calculation process, which can realize seamless integration of AI technology and power system analysis and control. At present, STEPS has realized the simulation of ac-dc hybrid system with more than 30,000 nodes, and it has been applied in the research teams of Wuhan University, Beijing Jiaotong University and other universities.

The contest launched by Deepin co., LTD., the largest open source Deepin Linux/GNU operating system development companies in China. Under the guidance of China Electronics Standardization Association and China intelligent terminal operating system alliance, the domestic excellent software and hardware manufacturers loongson, Huawei, Sunway jointly held the domestic software competition. This competition promoted the process of open source software design on the domestic operating system, and made a meaningful attempt to create an infinite possible software ecological space in China, which confirmed the determination of establishing the independent CPU and operating system ecology.
